Stained Glass

Raised a Roman Catholic, I found myself mesmerized by the stained glass windows in our parish church as well as those of other places of worship I was privileged to visit. Every window illustrated a particular story, saint, or concept. Even the prayer candles, lit flames shimmering within cobalt or ruby red, suggested a quieter, deeper sanctity.

Inspired by the meditations and prayers offered by Rabbi David A. Cooper in his book, God Is a Verb: Kabbalah and the Practice of Mystical Judaism (New York: Riverhead, 1997), I created the Sanctum series to heighten my awareness of and reliance on the 4 Archangels directly affiliated with human health and protection. My luminaria and suncatchers represent the 3rd iteration in the series. The Archangels have supported my ongoing investigations into spiritual healing every step of the way.

They are:

  • Michael (“who is like God” or “who is as God”)—Fire element; 1st and 4th chakras

  • Gabriel (“hero of God” or “the mighty one”)—Water element; 2nd and 5th chakras

  • Raphaël (“the shining one who heals” or “the medicine of God”)—the etheric bodies

  • Uriel (“fire of God” or “God is my light”)—harmonizes all
